We always look for ways to help our members. In February and March, we received funding from the Mid and South Essex NHS Foundation Trust, enabling us to offer a tour of Southend Hospital and two health workshops in partnership with Healthwatch Southend , Dr Kristina from the Queensway Surgery, and Dr Hannah. Our ESOL students also learned how to fill our GP registration forms. These forms are normally between 5 and 7 pages long and are necessary in order to register with a doctor.
ACTIVITIES FOR CHILDREN
Growing up with parents who speak another language is a big advantage but it also brings new challenges. Welcome to the UK wants to support children as much as adults. We are grateful to have partners who help us provide special activities for EAL children.
We offer a homework club every Wednesday from 4pm to 5pm, with students from South Essex College offering tutoring to children from 8 to 16 years old.
On Saturdays, we have Albanian lessons, for children who want to keep up with the language spoken by their family.
On Mondays, we will be offering a free Drama workshop every week from 5pm to 6:30pm. BLAST will be delivered by professionals from Elevator Arts and aims to boost confidence. Please contact us to find out how more.
