In April, we wanted to mark the 1 year anniversary of when the first residents of Southend opened their homes to complete strangers. The Homes for Ukraine scheme has been a success thanks to the many hosts who have shown an immense amount of kindness towards refugees fleeing their war-torn country.
To celebrate this solidarity, we hosted an event The IronWorks is a café, an art gallery, a social space and so much more.
We would like to say a special thank you to Stase and Oksana for organising party games, to Shannon for singing beautiful songs, to Vlada for teaching us the Ukrainian Art of Petrykivka and to Southend-on-Sea City Council for sponsoring this event.
We long to see peace return in Ukraine but in the meantime, we are grateful for all the new friends we have made this past year.
Our weekly drop-in session will carry on throughout the summer. Every Tuesday from 10am to 12pm at the hub.
