Last week, we were invited to meet around 60 pupils in years 5 & 6 at St Joseph the Worker School in Essex for a very special session about refugees and life in the UK.
The children asked brilliant questions about asylum, culture, and food, showing their natural empathy and curiosity. Using Google Translate, they were able to ask questions in English and hear the answers translated live into Arabic, and then hear the answers translated back into English.
It was inspiring to see how technology, patience, and kindness can help bridge language gaps and bring people together. A simple tutorial in Google Translate on the classroom board showed the students how they can communicate with anyone, anywhere.
A heartfelt thank-you to Mary Stretch, CEO of @calais_light , and Kathryn, Headteacher at @sjtwschool , for making this wonderful opportunity possible. 💛
