In our recent Ukrainian Club sessions, we embarked on a creative and cultural journey that connected the children with their heritage in fun and meaningful ways.
On October 19th, we explored traditional Ukrainian ornaments through embroidery, crochet, drawing, and more. The children learned that each element of a vyshyvanka carries meaning and can even form an ornamental alphabet to spell out their names.
We also started a lovely tradition of celebrating monthly birthdays—a joyful way to make every child feel special and strengthen our sense of community.
Then, on November 9th, the younger children dove into Ukraine’s autumn traditions, discovering the significance of the harvest season and the joy it brings. They learned how these customs showcase the beauty of Ukrainian heritage. Meanwhile, the teens explored vechornytsi gatherings and discussed their cultural roots, including the intriguing Veles Night—Ukraine’s own version of Halloween. The session wrapped up with an exciting game of Werewolf, led by our volunteer Kirill, which fostered teamwork, logical thinking, and emotional intelligence.
These sessions were filled with creativity, tradition, and camaraderie—and we can’t wait for what’s next!
